A “mosstok” or “moss pole” in English is a convenient tool that helps houseplants to climb to higher places. The moss pole is vertical pole covered with some sort of fibrous material, designed to support plants. Moss is still used for sure, but these days coconut fibers are more common.
Climbing aroids like the Monstera and Philodendron are usually found in tropical rainforests. Due to the density of the rainforest they naturally only get enough sunlight by climbing high. The way these plants grow is by climbing onto trees in order to get more sunlight. The climbing plants have a natural desire to grow tall but the stems and leaves are too heavy to grow upwards without help. That’s where the moss pole comes in.
